DFMC Partner ProgramPartner Program

For many runners, the DFMC Partner Program is the heart of the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge. The program was founded by Lindsay Frazier, MD, a pediatric oncologist at Dana-Farber and a veteran DFMC runner.

The Patient Partner component of the program matches runners with patients at the Institute's Jimmy Fund Clinic. The partners meet several times throughout the season for planned activities like the "Meet Your Match" and poster decorating parties, and on their own for dinners, sporting events, and other visits.

The In-Memory part of the Partner Program is an opportunity for team members to run the marathon in memory of a child who was treated at the Jimmy Fund Clinic but, sadly, did not survive. The runner and the child's family are invited to a special dinner prior to the marathon to get acquainted and are also encouraged to get together on their own throughout the season.

For many partnerships, the highlight of the program comes on marathon weekend at the DFMC pasta party, and on marathon day as runners reach the 25-mile mark near Kenmore Square. They are greeted by their partners, who cheer wildly, wave signs and banners, and share hugs and high fives.
