Patient Partner and a 2013 DFMC runner

The DFMC Partner Program is part of the heart of the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge. The program was founded by Lindsay Frazier, MD, Pediatric Oncologist at Dana-Farber and a veteran DFMC runner.

The Partner Program matches runners with patients treated at the Institute's Jimmy Fund Clinic. Partners meet several times throughout the season for planned activities like "Meet Your Match" and the "Poster Party," and on their own for dinners, sporting events, and other visits.

The In-Memory Program is an opportunity for team members to run the marathon in memory of a child who was treated at the Jimmy Fund Clinic but lost the fight against cancer. The runner and the child's family are invited to a special dinner prior to the marathon to get acquainted, and are also encouraged to get together on their own throughout the season.

For many partnerships, the highlight of the season comes on marathon weekend at the DFMC pasta party, and on marathon day as runners reach the 25-mile mark near Kenmore Square in Boston. They are greeted by their partners, who cheer wildly, wave signs and banners, and share hugs and high-fives.
